Ladies and gentlemen….our cake!

I would really, really, REALLY love to try to make the cake myself. But…we’ll see. This one admittedly looks pretty difficult. But I have a year to work on it!

Oh, also - the colour details in the pic are pink, but we’ll do green or lavender, I think.

Dress inspiration! I really, really don’t want the traditional, big ballgown style dress. It just doesn’t feel like me? But I loooove the idea of a tea length, vintage inspired (if not legits vintage) dress like these. I don’t know where to start though!

I think first I need to try on a couple to see how they look. But then what…custom made? Vintage shops? Ebay? I need help!

So, my guy and I are going to do wine and beer only at our wedding, and we’re keeping the selection local. The beer is a no brainer - Mill St. Organic all the way! (And I guess Tankhouse for the dark beer fans.) But we have no clue what local wine to choose!

Admittedly, I’m don’t really enjoy most (any?) Ontario wines. But I also haven’t tried a lot of them. So starting now, we’re going to buy only Ontario wines to try them and hopefully find great selections for the wedding. Suggestions are welcome!

These are the first two I picked up. I found the white a little sweet, but it was okay. Haven’t tried the red yet - here’s hoping!

decisions/things that I love:

I’ve been really stuck about colours, but people keep asking me if I’ve chosen them. So far I’ve just said…”really, so, that’s definitely a thing I have to do? Choose official wedding colours?!” Apparently it is!

Right away I just thought, well, I’ll go with red then, I guess. But I’ve seen it done at pretty much every wedding I’ve been to in the last ten years, and I didn’t think my fiancée would be thrilled about it. Then, last week, I picked up the Toronto Life Weddings edition as well as the current Martha Stewart Weddings mag, and both featured some very beautiful flower arrangements that were largely composed of greenery. I love, love, love the look. (Similar to the one pictured, but more green…that’s the closest I could find to what I want with a quick google image search!)

Given that we (okay, mostly me) really want to throw as sustainable/ecofriendly a wedding as possible, I also really love the symbolism of the colour green. So it looks like that’s the direction we’re taking! Mostly green, with splashes of pink to keep it from being too bland.

But I’m really not envisioning the chosen colours defining the theme too much. Like, bridesmaids? You don’t have to wear pink or green. And there’ll be no pink or green vests for the groomsmen, nor pink and green linens on the tables. Subtle’s the name of the game!

I am so, so, SO incredibly excited to share this news: we’ve chosen our venue! We’ll be putting down a deposit later this week. Here are a few shots of the venue, Wychwood Barns, which is an historic site in Toronto that has been converted from an old school TTC Streetcar storage facility into this lovely, lovely hall.

We checked out a few different places, and in the end it came down to the Barns or Casa Loma. What a difficult choice! In the end, though, as beautiful as Casa Loma is we decided that Wychwood Barns is more fitting for us as a couple.

So now we have a few things decided - the location and the date, July 21, 2012.
